Inpatient visit and companion policy


In order to protect inpatients during the Covid-19 pandemic, Hospital 9 de Julho has continuously improved its inpatient visit and companion policy. Below, see the permanence rules and important guidelines for companions and visitors.

Rules for visits: 

  • Must not be under 18 years-old ; 

  • No symptoms suggestive of COVID-19; 

  • Not having been exposed to suspected cases of COVID-19 in the past 14 days; 

  • Wear a surgical mask (provided by the H9J); change the mask every 6 hours. 

NOTE 

  • Hospital Nove de Julho informs that, pursuant to Decree No. 64.959 of May 4, 2020 and SS Resolution No. 96 of June 29, 2020, in the state of São Paulo, the wearing of masks within establishments throughout the entire permanence is mandatory.  

  • For safety reasons, non-adherence to the protocol may result in the restriction of the stay of companions with the patient; 

  • The companion will not be allowed to remain in the hospital if they present symptoms suggestive of COVID-19; 

  • Prior notice and definition of the name of who will be the companion. 

Once the companion* has been defined, pay attention to prevention actions, namely: 

  • Active search for daily symptomatics for the companion and patients; 

  • Rotation of the companion is allowed only if it is impossible for him to remain throughout the period of hospitalization and the change will only be allowed if the other person can stay for at least 12 hours and must be notified in advance; 

  • Care in orange or red protocol units: 

  • The entry of suitcases/clothes bag is not allowed in the red protocol areas. Always ask for help from the hospital's concierge service; 

  • The companion, when indicated and released, must wear an N95 mask, waterproof apron and procedure gloves (supplied by the hospital) inside the patient's room;  

  • It is not allowed to leave the room, unless requested by the nursing staff; 

  • Avoid direct contact with the patient, such as kissing and hugging. If you need to touch the patient, sanitize your hands and change the gloves; 

  • Sanitize your hands with soap and water or alcohol gel after going to the bathroom and changing gloves; 

  • Do not share personal hygiene or common use items, i.e.: fork, spoon, washcloth, etc.; 

  • Remove the mask just to eat, and at this time, you should remain in the room, but as far away from the patient as possible; 

  • Care in other units:  

  • Companion must remain wearing a surgical mask even inside the patient's room; 

  • The mask must be changed every 6 hours and will be provided by the nursing staff at each shift; 

  • Avoid direct contact with the patient, such as kissing and hugging. If you need to touch the patient, sanitize your hands and change the gloves; 

  • Sanitize your hands with soap and water or alcohol gel after going to the bathroom and changing gloves; 

  • Do not share personal hygiene or common use items, i.e.: fork, spoon, washcloth, etc.; 

  • Remove the mask just to eat, and at this time, you should remain in the room, but as far away from the patient as possible. 

The nursing team will screen all companions twice a day (regardless of the unit/area of hospitalization), checking temperature and asking questions about signs and symptoms of COVID-19, if you present any of these, you must call another companion for the exchange and look for a health service. It will be registered in the medical record according to the standard annotation.  

We encourage family and friends to adopt virtual ways of contacting our patients, using platforms such as Skype, Teams, and Whatsapp, among others.
