The interdisciplinary group is comprised by professionals of both sexes, in addition to a user representative, as required by the CNS resolution No. 240/1997. The Local Ethics Committee of Hospital 9 de Julho is an interdisciplinary and independent collegiate board created in order to defend the interests of research participants and to contribute for the development of research within the ethical standards of the institution. The LEC abides by item VII.2 of Resolution No. 466, of 12/12/2012, and No. 370/2007 and operational standard No. 1/2013 – Ministry of Health/National Health Council/National Research Ethics Commission. 

The interdisciplinary group is comprised by professionals of both sexes, in addition to a user representative, as required by the CNS resolution No. 240/1997.  The Local Ethics Committee of Hospital 9 de Julho is multidisciplinary in nature, and shall not have more than half of its members in the same professional category of both sexes. Moreover, it shall rely on "ad hoc" consultants, who may either belong to the institution or not, for the purposes of providing technical support. 

The evaluation and monitoring of the ethical aspects of research involving human beings is incumbent to the Local Ethics Committee of the Hospital 9 de Julho, in accordance with the provisions of international ethical guidelines (Declaration of Helsinki, International Guidelines for Biomedical Research involving Human Beings - CIOMS ) and Brazilian (Res. No. 466/12 and complementary) guidelines which emphasize the necessity of ethical and scientific review of research involving human beings, whilst seeking to safeguard the dignity, the rights, the safety, and the well-being of the participant or research. ​
